Nuns of St. Lydia Monastery from Asprovalta Visit National Assembly House

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Elvira Kovacs welcomed the nuns of the monastery of St. Lydia from Asprovalta visiting the National Assembly House, expressing her deepest gratitude for their charity from the previous decades.

"Guided by the works of your patron St. Lydia, Archimandrite Theophilus provided the world with a noble residence ("Children’s Joy") that became the home of more than 30,000 children, over 10,000 of them Serbian children from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo-Metohija, as a result of the fratricidal war and persecution of the Serbian people. Through the works of your sisterhood, the nobility and charity of Archimandrite Theophilus, whose merits and Christian virtue are immeasurable, will live forever. "Your monastery is proof that brotherly love knows no boundaries, as you have shown by printing the book "Crucified Kosovo", which reminds of the persecution of the Serbian people and the suffering of Serbian monasteries in Kosovo-Metohija," said the National Assembly Deputy Speaker.

She stressed that, with their actions, they have shown us that children are the greatest treasure and that we must always protect them, especially at times most difficult for them, and that peace is the most essential word today, one that will always show us the right path, a lesson the nuns teach us every day with their actions.

"The Sretenje Order of the First Degree presented by the President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic to the Orthodox Christian Sisterhood of St. Lydia in 2020 will remain an eternal reminder of the brotherhood between our two peoples and gratitude for everything you have done for the Serbian people and the Republic of Serbia," Kovacs concluded.

Sanja Lakic, member of the Committee on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region, also greeted the guests, expressing her satisfaction with their visit to the National Assembly and Serbia. She stressed that, as someone who had experienced the horrors of being a refugee, she is well aware of the importance of their noble act for war orphans and Serbian children, enabling them to feel the beauty of childhood.

"In the whirlwind of an unfortunate and bloody war, you were the friendly hand we needed. On behalf of all those children, thank you very much", said Sanja Lakic.
