Opposition Parliamentary Groups Representatives Meet with SAPC Co-Chair
Representatives of the opposition parliamentary groups, MPs Biljana Djordjevic, Tijana Peric Diligenski and Pavle Grbovic, spoke with the co-chair of the European Union - Serbia Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee (SAPC) Loucas Fourlas about the current political situation in Serbia.
The MPs expressed the view that the country is in a serious social and political crisis and that they see the solution in the formation of a transitional government, the goal of which would be to ensure the conditions for, they said, fair and democratic elections. They underlined their support for the full fulfilment of all of the students’ demands, especially making sure to explain the significance of the first demand of the student protests - the publication of the complete documentation on the reconstruction of Novi Sad Railway Station and determining responsibility for the accident.
The MPs spoke about the current investigation of the work of non-governmental organizations in Serbia by the prosecutor's office, the issue of media freedom, and expressed particular concern about the non-functioning of the National Assembly and the irregularity of its sessions.
The co-chair of the EU-Serbia Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee Loucas Fourlas believes that overcoming the crisis lies in dialogue. He stressed that during his official visit to the Republic of Serbia, he collected all the relevant information on the current crisis, which he will, after including them in his report, submit to the President of the European Parliament for review.
