PFG with Belarus Meets with Belarusian Deputy Foreign Minister

The members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Belarus met today in the National Assembly House with Yuri Ambrazevich, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus.


At the beginning of the meeting, the Head of the PFG with Belarus, Marijan Risticevic, congratulated President Lukashenko on his victory in the recent elections in Belarus, stressing that Belarus is a great friend of Serbia.

"We are grateful that you respect our sovereignty and territorial integrity and consider our southern Province of Kosovo-Metohija to be an integral part of our country," said Risticevic.

He added that Serbia is currently facing an attempted color revolution, which Belarus had also faced, and that Serbia will not be overthrown with the help of foreign forces through violence, blockades and protests. Risticevic stressed that the PFG with Belarus in the National Assembly is traditional, has 35 members, and is engaged in the promotion of friendly relations between the two states and two peoples. He said that he would like mutual economic cooperation, especially cooperation of the agro-complex, to be more dynamic, as well as overall economic, business, cultural, and all other forms of cooperation, because there are no major obstacles to that. Risticevic also emphasised that everyone is concerned about the crisis in Ukraine and expressed his belief that by putting an end to financing the war, the conflict will be over, and peace will bring joy to everyone in Europe and the world.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Yuri Ambrazevich emphasized that his arrival at this very moment is a sign of support for the stable development of Serbia. He stated that his country is against any form of color revolution, and that he believes that changes in society should take place through constitutional and legal changes. He underlined Belarus' commitment to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia and thanked Serbia for not joining the sanctions against his country, expressing hope that it will continue to do so.

Ambrazevic added that interparliamentary cooperation is of great importance for relations between the two countries, as well as for improving cooperation in many areas such as agriculture, economy, tourism, education, but also for nurturing friendly relations between the two peoples, cooperation between women's initiatives, trade unions, cooperation between national libraries, overall cultural cooperation, as well as preserving and expanding the tradition of twinning cities, municipalities and regions of Serbia and Belarus.

The conclusion of the meeting, which also included PFG members Djordje Komlenski, Aleksandar Markovic, Dijana Radovic, Slobodan Nikolic and Milija Miletic, was that there is a wide range of opportunities for cooperation between the two countries and the participants also touched on the need to preserve historical memory, especially the facts about World War II, establishing more direct ties between MPs, as elected representatives of citizens, and also the importance of parliamentary diplomacy, as well as other topics of mutual interest.
