Presentation for MPs on Money Laundering Prevention System in Republic of Serbia

The National Assembly House hosted a presentation for the MPs on the money laundering prevention system in the Republic of Serbia.

The presentation was attended by the members of the Defence and Internal Affairs Committee, Committee on Finance, State Budget and Control of Public Spending, Security Services Control Committee and the Committee on the Judiciary, Public Administration and Local Self-Government.
The Director of the Ministry of Finance Directorate for Prevention of Money Laundering Milovan Milovanovic presented the money laundering prevention system to the members of the Assembly committees and briefed them on the operation of the Directorate he heads. He stressed that the MPs need to take active part in combating money laundering and terrorist funding by supervising the work of the executive and adopting legislation suited to the legal system, political environment and socio-economic situation in Serbia. Cooperation with foreign colleagues and the international community is also important, as is keeping the public informed on the situation relating to the fight against money laundering and criminal offenses resulting in profit, said Milovanovic. He also spoke of the connection between money laundering, terrorist funding and corruption and the importance of international standards.
The presentation was held as part of MOLI Serbia – Project against Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing in Serbia, with the support of the European Union and the Council of Europe.
Local Manager of project MOLI Serbia Teodora Lukovic said that project MOLI aims to improve democratisation and the rule of law by preventing and controlling money laundering and terrorist financing, as well as other types of economic and financial crime in Serbia, in line with European and other international standards.
