Promoting Economic Cooperation between Serbia and Georgia

The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic met today, at the National Assembly House, with the Georgian State Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Victor Dolidze.

Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic said that the two countries’ parliamentary cooperation is following an upward trend and there is also room to enhance economic cooperation:

“Economic cooperation can be enhanced through international projects such as the Chinese One Belt One Road initiative which could prove important for both countries”, said Obradovic.

Obradovic said that, politically, Serbia and Georgia face similar problems stressing how important it is that both countries adhere to the tenets of territorial integrity, sovereignty and international law. Obradovic thanked Georgia for not recognizing the self-declared independence of Kosovo and for its support in thwarting Kosovo’s attempts to join international organizations.

He reminded the guest that Serbia’s foreign policy goal is to join the European Union and the country hard at work to meet the obligations of the negotiation process, stressing that recognition of the independence of Kosovo would never be an acceptable part of the negotiations.

Minister Dolidze said that Serbia and Georgia share friendly, historic, cultural and religious ties. Even though Georgia does not have an Ambassador in Serbia, nor Serbia in Georgia, the two countries’ cooperation is very good and progressive. Dolidze said that EU membership is also Georgia’s strategic, foreign and domestic policy goal.

“We have a considerable challenge before us which is the improvement of the society through comprehensive reform of education, energy and infrastructure”, said Dolidze.

He stressed that Serbia can always count on Georgia as a partner for cooperation and dialogue and agreed with Obradovic that Serbia’s Euro-integration experiences could be of great help to Georgia.
