Protest Because of Lack of Reaction from Council of Europe about Incidents in Kosovo
The Head of the National Assembly’s standing delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Prof. Dr Aleksandra Tomic protected against the lack of any reaction from the Parliamentary Assembly or any of the bodies of the Council of Europe to the recent unpleasant incidents in Kosovo-Metohija.
The letters asked for a condemnation of the incidents which caused injuries to 32 people, among them citizens of Kosovska Mitrovica, journalists and Serbian officials and representatives of the Serb minority at the provisional institutions of Pristina, including the Director of the Office for Kosovo-Metohija Marko Djuric who was arrested, taken to Pristina and detained. The PACE high officials were informed that armed uniformed individuals attacked a peaceful gathering the purpose of which was talks within the internal dialogue on Kosovo-Metohija.
“In the incident, there was one side in conflict, armed with rifles, which attacked peaceful and unarmed Serbian citizens who did not resist. I can regretfully note that this vicious attack is not being discussed at the European institutions whose purpose is the protection of human rights, which was not the case when the train from Belgrade set off for Kosovska Mitrovica. The injured had gathered peacefully to discuss crucial issues, which is an open violation of basic civil and human rights. Our delegation plans to speak of this incident with other high officials and members of delegations at the PACE at the coming April session in Strasbourg, 23 – 27 April”, said Tomic.
