The public hearing was opened by Committee Chairperson Vesna Marjanovic who, reminding the participants that the National Assembly had passed the Law on Culture in 2008, said she hoped today’s discussion would result in suggestions on how to improve the existing law and define major culture policy trends.
Minister of Culture and Media Ivan Tasovac said that the Draft Law offers systemic regulation for the culture policy and what comes next is to work on individual solutions for each specific sphere.
In addition to the MPs, the public hearing on the Draft Law was also attended by representatives of the Yugoslav Film Archive, National Council for Culture, Composers’ Association of Serbia, ballet and dramatic artists’ associations, Association of Literary Translators, Association of Fine Artists, Applied Arts and Designers of Serbia, representatives of the Provincial Secretariat for Culture, Ministry of Defence, Serbian National Theatre and other art and culture associations who had many suggestions on how to improve some of the articles of the Draft Law.
After the public hearing, Minister of Culture and Media Ivan Tasovac thanked the participants for the quite specific comments they made on the Draft Law, while the Culture and Information Committee Chairperson Vesna Marjanovic invited them to continue to follow the drafting process, stressing that there is still ample room to improve the legislation through amendments.
