Republic of Srpska National Assembly Speaker Dr Nenad Stevandic Visits Republic of Serbia

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met today with the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska Dr Nenad Stevandic. Dr Orlic expressed satisfaction that the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska has made visiting Belgrade his first official visit since taking office.

The officials jointly noted that the Republic of Srpska and the Republic of Serbia cultivate close relations, which have in previous years reached the highest level do date, and expressed readiness to continue intensive cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.

In the course of the meeting, they also discussed furthering economic ties, especially with regard to trade and investments. The talks also referred to continuing the implementation of joint projects, with special emphasis on the importance of the construction of the Belgrade-Banja Luka highway, hydropower plant on the Drina, Donja Gradina memorial centre and other infrastructure projects. They also highlighted the importance of a large number of local and communal infrastructure projects, financed by Serbia in many municipalities of the Republic of Srpska, as well as of the Federation where the Serbian people live. "Serbia is an economic leader in the region with a healthy budget and stable public finances, which instils security in the Republic of Srpska and creates conditions for continued cooperation," said Dr Stevandic.

The Speakers of the Assemblies of the Republic of Srpska and Serbia went on to discuss the political situation in the region, confirming the mutual support and shared positions on all important issues. Dr Orlic thanked the Republic of Srpska, its people and elected representatives, for supporting the state policy of peace, stability and development which the Republic of Serbia is implementing under the leadership of the President of the Republic, Aleksandar Vucic. "It is a policy that is supported by the people of Serbia, and pursued by the Serbian National Assembly and Government," said the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia. "I would like to thank the Republic of Srpska clearly expressing its support for our national efforts to protect our vital interests and our people in Kosovo-Metohija," said Dr Orlic.

In the course of the conversation, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska expressed their determination to further improve the already rich interparliamentary cooperation at all levels, and after the meeting they held a joint press conference.
