Serbian Delegation Protests against Plenkovic’s Insults

The Serbian delegation lodged a strong protest with the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Liliane Maury Pasquier and requested an urgent meeting because of Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic’s scandalous address to the members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

Responding to MP Aleksandar Seselj in a wholly unacceptable manner he made the scandalous claim that Serbia was the aggressor and Croatia the victim in the 1990's conflict. Provoked by the questions about the endangered rights of Serbs in Croatia, PM Plenkovic continued to insult the state of Serbia.

The Serbian delegation believes that PACE President Pasquier did not react in a timely manner and violated the rules of procedure by allowing Plenkovic to continue with his shameful speech. In this manner, he avoided responding to some essential but unresolved issues concerning the Serbian national minority which Croatia keeps sweeping under the carpet, but which have been noted by the ECRI report on Croatia of April this year. Having a prime minister lecture a member of the PACE is unprecedented and it violates the fundamental principle of freedom of speech.

Because of these new developments the Serbian delegations insists to have a meeting with the PACE President and asks for a reaction to the Croatian Prime Minister’s unacceptable behavior.
