Seventh Sitting of the Culture and Information Committee

At the sitting held on 18 January, the Culture and Information Committee considered the Ministry of Culture and Information Activity Information for the period October-December 2012.


The representatives of the Ministry of Culture and Information, Minister Bratislav Petkovic and state secretaries Miroslav Tasic and Gordana Predic, presented the Ministry’s main activities in the last quarter of 2012 to the Committee members. In the debate, the Committee members made several complaints to the Ministry’s work, among other things complaining that the Information had not been submitted in due time and that the Ministry had not reacted publicly to the threats to the freedom of the media and attacks on journalists in said period.

At the sitting, the Committee also considered the request made by Muhedin Fijuljanin, member of the National Council for Culture, to be dismissed from duty and established the Proposal of the Decision on Dismissal to be forwarded to the National Assembly.

The Committee decided to hold three public hearings the first of which, scheduled to take place in late January, would be on the freedom of the media, while the other two public hearings would be dedicated to a debate on media strategy and financing of culture.

The sitting was chaired by Vesna Marjanovic, Committee Chairperson.
