Seventh Sitting of the Gender Equality Committee

The representative of the Gender Equality Sector of the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, Jelena Nadj, briefed the Committee on the Sector’s plan of activity and the Ministry’s priorities in the area. A bill and national strategy on gender equality are currently being drafted. These documents will, according to her, establish the legal and social framework for the elimination of gender discrimination and the improvement of the position of women. The Committee agreed that an interdisciplinary cooperation of all appropriate institutions should be ensured in the preparation of these documents, along with the active participation of this Assembly Body, and a general public discussion should be conducted.
The Committee Chairperson, Elena Bozic-Talijan who chaired the sitting, informed the Committee members that the International Day Against Violence Against Women will be commemorated on 22 November.
