Seventy-Third Sitting of the Committee on Science and Technological Development
At the sitting that started on 14 March and continued on 27 March, the Committee on Science and Technological Development considered the Bill amending the Law on Copyright and Related Rights, submitted by the Government.
The Committee members, MPs interested in the topic, Director of the Republic of Serbia Intellectual Property Office, representative of the Union of Employers of Serbia and representatives of the Association of Broadcasters of Western Serbia discussed the solutions offered by the Bill. They voiced different opinions on whether trade shops should be exempt from paying for copyright as envisaged by the proposed amendments to the Law on Copyright and Related Rights.
The representatives of the Association of Broadcasters of Western Serbia briefed the gathering on the problems they encounter relating to copyright fees.
The Committee members agreed that the sitting should be continued with all the relevant parties present.
In the continuation, on 27 March, the Committee members adopted the Bill amending the Law on Copyright and Related Rights in principle. In the discussion with the representatives of the Republic of Serbia Intellectual Property Office, Union of Employers of Serbia and Association of Broadcasters of Western Serbia, the Committee members agreed that the adopted Bill should be modified by amendments in order to eliminate the problems the present parties pointed out.
