Shanghai Delegation Visits National Assembly

A delegation of the City of Shanghai, headed by Zheng Gangmiao, Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the City of Shanghai, met today with National Assembly Deputy Speaker, Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee and Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the People's Republic of China, Marina Ragus.

Ragus said that the relations between the two countries have reached peak levels, resulting in the signing of the statement on the community with a shared future in the new era, as a new concept and modality of the future international community. In Europe, Serbia advocates for a campaign of peace, respect for international public law and the UN Charter, very similar to China's philosophy of political development, which makes the steel friendship the two countries share very important in today's geo-political times, added Ragus. She reminded that for Serbia there is only one China and this position will not change at any world forum where it always insists on the territorial integrity of the People's Republic of China. Serbia is grateful to the People's Republic of China for the support it provides in the UN, as well as for the economic cooperation and investments of Chinese companies in the Serbian economy, infrastructure and numerous other projects, Ragus added.

Zheng Gangmiao, Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the City of Shanghai, emphasised the importance of community with a shared future for the further improvement of relations between Serbia and China and assessed that the two nations have the same understanding of issues that are important for the preservation of national interests. The City of Shanghai is interested in strengthening friendship and cooperation with Serbia and having more Chinese companies doing business in Serbia.

At the meeting, the officials opined that there is room for improving cooperation between the two countries in numerous areas, such as trade, infrastructure, culture, as well as the IT sector, which is becoming the leading economic branch in Serbia. Ragus also said that in the upcoming period, the PFG with China in the Serbian Parliament will work more ambitiously and more overall than before, in order to contribute to strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

The meeting was also attended by PFG members Biljana Pantic Pilja and Aleksandar Mirkovic.
