Solemn Reception of Isabelle Moret at National Assembly House! Greeted by Dacic!

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic received the President of the National Council of the Swiss Confederation Isabelle Moret, in official visit to Republic of Serbia.

After a solemn reception at the National Assembly House, Isabelle Moret had a meeting with National Assembly Speaker Ivica Dacic.

Following the meeting, Assembly Speaker Dacic said that this was the first international visit in the new parliamentary legislature and a sign of good bilateral relations. Dacic said that Switzerland is among the biggest donors and has according to estimates invested about 350 million Swiss francs in the past 20 years. The National Assembly Speaker believes that the parliamentary cooperation between the two countries could be improved and to that end mentioned the recently established PFG at the National Assembly, headed by SNS MP Jasmina Obradovic.

He thanked Switzerland for the donations during the pandemic and again expressed solidarity with all countries.

Dacic opined that the relations between the two countries are at a high level, and reminded the guest that Vucic and Brnabic had participated in the World Economic Forum in Davos in January of this year, as well as of the several visits of Swiss state officials who shared the country’s experiences concerning dual education.

He said that the economic relations between the two countries are good, but they can be even better, stating that the trade exchange last year amounted to around 430 million EUR.

Dacic informed Moret about the current situation regarding the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, as well as Serbia’s ambition to become a member of the EU, adding that the country is a constructive partner.

After the meeting with National Assembly Speaker Ivica Dacic, the President of the National Council of the Swiss Confederation Isabelle Moret said that Switzerland and Serbia are going through a difficult period due to the COVID-19 pandemic and that Switzerland had sent 600,000 Swiss francs in aid.

Moret stressed that it is crucial for the parliaments to fulfil their role in these difficult times and make decisions in order to protect the population, both in health and economic terms.

She told the reporters in the Serbian Parliament that she talked with Dacic about the role of the parliament, the need for the separation of powers and the reforms Serbia is implementing.

"Ivica Dacic's experience in various positions of responsibility in the executive branch gives him an advantage to strengthen the role of the National Assembly in Serbia," Moret said.

She said she was pleased that during her visit to Serbia, she would have the opportunity to talk with President Aleksandar Vucic, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and Minister of Finance Sinisa Mali, emphasizing that the bilateral relations between the two countries are exceptional in political, economic and cultural terms.

She added that Switzerland allocated more than 20 million francs every year to invest in Serbia via cooperation projects, pointing out that to that end she had visited Nis and Paracin, where she was also treated with traditional Serbian hospitality.
