Speaker Dulic at IPU Assembly in Cape Town

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Dr Oliver Dulic, represented the National Assembly at the 118th session of the Interparliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly held 13 to 16 April 2008 in Cape Town (Republic of South Africa).



The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Dr Oliver Dulic, represented the National Assembly at the 118th session of the Interparliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly held 13 to 16 April 2008 in Cape Town (Republic of South Africa).

The Speaker of the National Assembly suggested that the Resolution on Support for the protection of international law and the reaffirmation of sovereignty, territorial integrity and constitutional order of the Republic of Serbia be included in the agenda as an urgent item.

Addressing the participants, Dulic deemed that adopting such a resolution will send a clear message that abiding by international law is essential for peace and safety in the world.

“The resolution should affirm commitment to the principle of Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and the need to find a peaceful and mutually acceptable solution to the status of Kosovo and Metohia through negotiations. In Serbia, we are aware that we must find a democratic solution to the challenges before us”, Dulic stated.

He deemed that the whole region needs European perspective and that joining the family of European nations will contribute to the establishment of lasting peace, prosperity and stability.

During his stay in Cape Town Dulic conducted various bilateral talks with parliamentary speakers of countries attending the IPU Assembly.
