National Assembly Speaker and Chairman of the Committee of the Committee on the Rights of the Child Dr Vladimir Orlic opened the simulation of a public debate on the Draft Guidelines for Youth Participation in Environmental Protection, organised by Friends of Children of Serbia, the oldest organisation for the protection and promotion of child rights in Serbia.
Welcoming the young guests to the National Assembly, Dr Orlic said that this is an opportunity for them to get to know the National Assembly and leave it with the most wonderful impressions as well as the desire to return to it again.
“Whatever you may do tomorrow, think about Serbia, ask yourself what you can do for your country and all the people in it, and know that you have your country on your side today, ready to support young people, to support your future, to support you. Let today be an inspiration and an incentive for you, as well as for everyone who will have the opportunity to implement your ideas in the future", said Dr Orlic. He stressed that the National Assembly is the house of all citizens, above all the youth, who are the future of Serbia, and that all of its activities, the legislative process, concern the life of every person in Serbia.
"Today, you will have the opportunity to participate in a debate similar to the ones we have in the National Assembly, which will be based on the measures you have prepared through the dialogue you led in many local governments, with the participation of over 800 young people, on the topic of environmental protection, which is important for everyone in the world today, and of course, for everyone in our country as well. Just like the good roads we build, factories and good salaries, new health centres, good schools and universities, new institutes and technology parks are important to you. They mean a good life for everyone," said Dr Orlic.
Dr Orlic pointed out that the environment is not only a question of our attitude towards what we have inherited, it is also a question of how we can carefully preserve it and further improve it. He said that the environment is a major topic for everyone, connected with numerous other topics and issues which require good and thoughtful moves.
"These are questions you should also deal with, because our National Assembly and everything in our Serbia belong to you, because you are its future. We know that which is why we stand by you. Serbia is on your side," said the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.
