Talks with representatives of the international community

The Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and acting President of the Republic of Serbia, Predrag Markovic, met separately the Ambassadors of Great Britain and Finland, David Gowan and Anna Maija Korpi.


The Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and acting President of the Republic of Serbia, Predrag Markovic, met separately the Ambassadors of Great Britain and Finland, David Gowan and Anna Maija Korpi.

Mr Markovic also met Dr Stefan Lehne, chief advisor to EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana, and Ambassador Geoffrey Barrett, head of the Office of the Delegation of the European Commission Delegation to Serbia and Montenegro.

Discussion with British and Finnish ambassadors centred on bilateral co-operation and the activities of the Serbian Assembly. Mr Markovic acquainted the foreign representatives with the progress of work on the new Constitution, including committee activities, as well as discussions between the parliament’s Chairman and local assemblies. Also under discussion were legislative activities and making the parliament’s work more accessible to the public.

Mr Markovic acquainted Dr Lehne and Mr Barrett with the political situation relating to the upcoming presidential elections, expressing his firm belief that the people of Serbia would have an undisputed President if they turned out to vote in as large numbers as possible.
