Gojkovic Meets with Austrian National Council Third President Norbert Hofer
The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic met today with the Third President of the Austrian National Council Norbert Hofer. The officials stressed that Serbia and Austria enjoy good and friendly relations, ready to be intensified further.
Gojkovic thanked Austria for the support it provides to Serbia on its path to Europe, stressing that the National Assembly pays a significant role in the process.
Hofer said that Austria will continue to support Serbia’s Euro-integration and believes that by 2018 Serbia would have completed its adjustment to EU standards and norms, which is followed by the two-year period of ratification by member states.
“We hope that Serbia will in due time, as soon as possible, become an EU member”, said Hofer, adding that Austria’s Presidency would prove very significant for Serbia’s EU path.
Gojkovic stressed that by 2020 Serbia would definitely have harmonised its legislation with the EU acquis so as to meet EU membership requirements, after which the final decision rests with the EU member states.
