Gojkovic with Central and Eastern Europe Parliament Speakers

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic is taking part in the meeting of Parliament Speakers of Central and Eastern Europe organised in Warsaw by the Polish Parliament (Sejm), with the topics recovery of the EU, improvement of parliamentary dialogue and cooperation between the countries of the Central and Eastern Europe regions.


Speaking about how to revive the European Union, Gojkovic said that Serbia stands for a future of Europe which the member and candidate states would not await with fear, but create together, with hope.

Serbia’s strategic objective and chief priority, she said, remains full EU membership, and the country is ready to continue with the social reform and reach European standards of living.

Speaking of Euro-integration, Gojkovic said she hoped that the integration process would gain stronger momentum in the near future and that the enlargement policy would not be brought into question, adding that only with the Western Balkans as an integral part can Europe be united and complete.

Gojkovic stressed that Serbia’s dedication to regional cooperation, joint efforts to build a region of peace, security and economic prosperity and address all disputed issues is not declarative, but fundamental, based on the awareness that it is crucial, and added that Serbia is dedicated to continuing with the constructive approach to all current challenges in the interest of regional and European stability.

The Parliament Speaker said that parliamentarians from Western Balkans countries, as direct representatives of the citizens, should invest personal efforts into fostering good cooperation.

The conference is attended by the parliament speakers of the host – Poland, followed by Georgia, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Macedonia, Turkey, Ukraine, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Moldova.

Gojkovic also met with the Marshal of the Polish Senate Stanislav Karchevsky and discussed the readiness to improve bilateral relations, develop parliamentary cooperation and cooperation between parliamentary committees and friendship groups.

It was stressed that Poland supports Serbia’s Euro-integration and is ready to help and exchange experiences, and Gojkovic underlined the importance of opening chapters 23 and 24 as a message to the entire region that Euro-integration continues.
