National Assembly Speaker Talks to Austrian National Council Speaker

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic talked to the Speaker of the National Council of the Parliament of the Republic of Austria, Barbara Prammer, heading a parliamentary delegation in an official two-day visit to the Republic of Serbia at the invitation of the National Assembly Speaker.



The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic talked to the Speaker of the National Council of the Parliament of the Republic of Austria, Barbara Prammer, heading a parliamentary delegation in an official two-day visit to the Republic of Serbia at the invitation of the National Assembly Speaker.

The officials discussed the improvement of all levels of parliamentary cooperation, as well as Serbia’s next steps in the process of integration into the European Union.

The National Council Speaker expressed her belief that the Republic of Austria would continue to support the Republic of Serbia in its European integration process. She added that the upcoming visa abolition for Serbian citizens traveling into Schengen agreement countries would be very significant, particularly for those who have relatives abroad and for young people. Prammer emphasised that there is a lot of room for further parliamentary cooperation between Austria and Serbia.

The National Assembly Speaker was grateful for Austria’s support of the efforts the Republic of Serbia is investing in the European integration process. She pointed out that Serbia’s speedy accession to the European Union is a key national goal, reflected in the Parliament’s intensified legislative and monitoring activities. She expressed an expectation that the in addition to cooperation on the level of friendship groups, the two countries’ parliaments would further cooperation through the cooperation of their European Integrations Committees and Foreign Affairs Committees. The Assembly Speaker stressed that Austria is an important economic partner for Serbia in the sphere of telecommunication, construction, banking and commerce and expressed her expectation that both parliaments’ joint projects would, among other things, spur the development of economic relations between the two countries.

After the meeting, the National Council Speaker and the National Assembly Speaker addressed the journalists present at the central hall of the National Assembly House.
