Popular Assemblies under the Defenders of the Constitution (Ustavobranitelji) (1842-1858)

The Council’s legislation of 1848 stipulates that assemblies are to be held every year. A Commission was set up charged with drafting a law on the popular assembly. The project was soon completed but that was the end of it. In the next ten years (until 1858), not a single assembly was convened.
