National Assembly Speaker Talks to Italian Ambassador

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic today received a farewell visit from H.



The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic today received a farewell visit from H.E. Alessandro Merola, Ambassador of the Republic of Italy to Serbia.

Ambassador Merola was pleased by the normalisation of parliamentary work in Serbia after a turbulent period, congratulating Assembly Speaker Djukic-Dejanovic on the efforts invested to stabilise parliamentary life. He stated that Italy will continue to support Serbia on its road to the European Union, stressing that the National Assembly had done a great job by adopting the laws essential for visa liberalisation and accession to the European Union.

The National Assembly Speaker expressed her belief that parliamentary cooperation between Serbia and Italy will continue in the future and be raised on a higher level. She repeated that the experiences of neighbouring countries with developed democracy contribute to develop parliamentary democracy in Serbia. She stated that the issue of visa regime liberalisation by the end of the year is something Serbia believes in, thanking the Ambassador for the support Italy lends Serbia on its road to European integration.
